  • How long does the diagnostic process take?

Once the referral and insurance verification is obtained, the evaluation process typically takes 1-2 weeks.

  • How will I confirm that my insurance company covers diagnostic services?

Our Intake team will verify coverage with your insurance company. A referral from your child’s physician will be required unless your family is paying privately.

  • Does my child need an autism diagnosis to get ABA services?

Insurance companies will authorize Applied Behavior Analysis services when a child has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If your child does not have a diagnosis of ASD, you can choose to pay for services privately.

  • What are the next steps now that my child has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder?

If your child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, our team is here to support your family every step of the way. Should you choose to pursue Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, we’ll help you navigate the approval process, starting with a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), which identifies the reasons behind your child’s behaviors and lays the foundation for a personalized treatment plan.

  • What is involved in the diagnostic evaluation?

Once we have a referral and insurance verification for your child, we can set up the initial appointment. The time it takes to conduct the developmental evaluation varies from child to child as well as the diagnostic tool used. Some insurance companies have specific request for which diagnostic tool is used when assessing children for ASD.

  • Can my BT drive my child around, if needed?

No. Your Behavior Technician can accompany your family for a clinically recommended trip in a family vehicle. BTs are prohibited from driving the child in any vehicle, even if a parent or guardian is present in the car.

  • Do you provide a blended treatment option (e.g. half in home and half in a clinic)?

At many locations we offer clinic and home-based services, however, not all locations have a clinic at this time. Please reach out to your Intake Coordinator for more information regarding the services that are available in your area.

  • Can I meet the staff (my Behavior Technician) before my child’s treatment begins?

Yes. Your designated clinical supervisor will review our Client Partnership Agreement with you in person and introduce you to our treatment approach. You will have the opportunity to meet the rest of your team as they work with you and become familiar with your child.

  • Do you have qualified staff?

Yes. Each ALP region employs BCBAs (Board Certified Behavior Analysts) and master’s level Supervisors who oversee all clinical operations. Additionally, our Behavior Technicians who carry out the daily treatment programs receive a comprehensive training program along with regular supervision, support and ongoing training by our senior clinical staff.

  • I saw a charge on my credit card. How do I know it’s from Autism Learning Partners?

The merchant name that will appear on a credit card charge is Autism Learning Partners. You will also receive an email receipt at the time your card is charged from [email protected]. If you do not see a receipt please check your email’s spam folder.

  • Can I pay my bill at the office?

Yes. Autism Learning Partners staff are happy to take your payment if you have received and invoice and would like to pay at the time of service. You can also pay your statement via mail or using the contact phone number on the statement.

  • How does secondary insurance work?

Please ensure that you communicate both your primary and secondary insurance information to Autism Learning Partners. You will be billed for any patient responsibility balance remaining after all insurance plans adjudicate your claims.  If you do not have a secondary insurance during your initial intake process but add one later,  you may inform an ALP staff member at that time so we can verify your coverage and add it to our system.  If your insurance ever changes throughout your child’s treatment plan, please notify an ALP staff member to navigate a smooth transition and ensure that services are not disrupted. ALP will also work with you to verify your new benefits.

  • I have insurance. Why am I being asked to pay?

Your patient responsibility portion depends on your insurance coverage. During the Intake process, Autism Learning Partners staff will verify the insurance information you provide as well as the copayment, coinsurance, and deductible related to your plan and provide this information to you. Your patient responsibility portion will be charged or billed to you after your insurance adjudicates your claim to ensure the correct amount. Please contact your insurance company or refer to your benefit plan for more information about what your out-of-pocket costs may be related to your care.

  • If I am uncomfortable storing my credit card am I able to just get a bill?

Yes. If you do not feel comfortable keeping a credit card on file you will receive a statement in the mail. You can pay your statement by mail or by contacting our Customer Service team who is available to take your payment over the phone. Please note this process may take longer for you to receive a bill for services rendered and may arrive after you receive your Explanation of Benefits from your insurance company.

  • What happens to my credit card information once I fill out the Patient Responsibility form?

Autism Learning Partners staff will record your credit card information into our secure system. We will redact your credit card information from the signed Patient Responsibility Form and scan into our system.

  • Why am I being asked to keep a credit card on file?

In order to ensure an accurate and timely client billing process, Autism Learning Partners automates credit card charging for rendered services at the point when your claim is processed by your insurance company. In order to automate this process, we ask clients to keep their credit card on file for the duration of care. Please keep in mind that there will be no charges made to your card until your treatment begins. Also, having your card on file does not obligate you to use ALP for care, if you decide to choose a different ABA provider. Our credit card processing system is secure and once your card is on file the only visible information will be the last four digits which you will see on your receipts.

  • What insurance does ALP accept in my area?

To see what insurances are accepted in your state, please visit our locations page and select your location. Each state page will list the insurance providers accepted in your area.

  • What is considered a medical diagnosis? Will an IEP suffice?

A medical diagnosis needs to be given by a qualified medical professional able to diagnose autism. Schools/IEPs are not able to provide a medical diagnosis. You can confirm with your insurance provider on who they have approved to give diagnosis.

  • Do you provide services on weekends?

Yes. We regularly provide sessions on weekends. ABA is a daily treatment program, and we offer some of those hours on weekends. Before treatment begins, our client services team will inform you about the options available and finalize your schedule with you.

  • Do I have to be present while my child is receiving services?

Family participation is vital for a child to make progress. Your clinical team will recommend a level of participation they determine is necessary. We encourage parents to sit in on sessions as often as they can. You are not required to participate in all ABA sessions; however, a caregiver over the age of 18 must be at home for the duration of each session. For clinic-based appointments, the child may be dropped off.

  • Do you provide school-based services?

Yes. If it is considered medically necessary and is a service recommended by your ALP clinical staff, we can. Additionally, your insurance company must approve it, and your school must approve that ALP staff can be on school premises with your child.

  • Do you require a minimum number of hours?

Yes. We require parents to commit to what is medically necessary for their child to make progress. Your BCBA will prescribe a level of service (number of weekly hours) based on your child’s needs that will lead to the best opportunity for behavioral improvements.

  • Do you diagnose?

If your child needs a diagnosis, our on-site diagnosticians are available to complete this process in select locations. If your child is outside of these locations, we’ll connect you with a qualified diagnostician in your area who can conduct the evaluation and provide all necessary documentation to move forward.
